About the event
Waterloo Region Grassroots Response to the Ukrainian Crisis is looking to extend our partnerships.
Many groups are reaching out to us to learn more so we decided to host these quick 30 minutes information sessions.
We are in urgent need of
1) hosts
2) financial support to cover housing
Our group first started up at the beginning of March when community members came together to talk about what we can do to help Ukrainians fleeing war and coming to Waterloo Region. Since this time we have recruited over 100 hosts and helped coordinate with 2 new Ukrainian housing spaces. We have connected 200 adults and 100 children with local hosts. We also have over 425 registered volunteers and hundreds more actively involved in other non-official ways.
Overall, we have received over 700 requests for help for housing or support from Ukrainians overseas considering Waterloo Region and from those in Waterloo Region. Our volunteers have been able to respond to most of them and have worked 1-1 with more families than who have come to Waterloo Region.
We need the help your help.
Currently, there are at least 13 families coming in Februrary and most do not yet have a host.
Our goal is to raise over $8,000 a month to cover housing and essential needs for Ukrainians coming to Waterloo Region and already in Waterloo Region.
