Pre-Event Background: Why We're Celebrating Pancake Day & Maslenitsa Together! 🥞💛
This year, Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) in Canada falls on February 17, 2026 — a day when many Canadians enjoy fluffy pancakes to mark the start of Lent. In Ukraine, there's a very similar tradition called Maslenitsa (Маслениця, Ukr), celebrated right before Lent (often in February or March), where families gather to eat crips (бліни, Ukr) and latky (деруни), share joy, and say goodbye to winter. We thought: why not unite these two delicious holidays into one beautiful community event? So, our Pancake Day Festival is a joyful fusion: Canadian pancakes meet Ukrainian Latky spirit, bringing together locals and newcomers to celebrate, connect, and support.
