Our team is on a mission to bridge the gap between skilled Ukrainian newcomers who are willing to live in the North and the Northern communities. Led by Stephanie Goertz, the team has been traveling across the region, meeting with local organizations and community leaders to discuss ways to support and integrate Ukrainian newcomers into the workforce.
"We are so excited about coming to the north and the overwhelming support we have received from the community," says Goertz. "The Northern communities have been incredibly accepting and open to the idea of supporting additional Ukrainian newcomers. It's heartwarming to see the willingness to help and make a positive impact."
It is a well-known fact that many Ukrainians are highly skilled and hard-working but can not find employment because many of them have lower English, lack Canadian work experience, and do not have local connections. Our team aims to change that by connecting these skilled individuals with Norten communities in need of their expertise. By doing so, they hope to not only help newcomers find meaningful employment but also contribute to the growth and development of the local economy.
Supporting the same idea, the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce is asking the province to allocate seats for workers specifically in Northern Ontario as many have been settling within the Greater Toronto Area primarily. Read the article, and watch the video.
