Letter to Volunteers: Transition of St. Jacobs Guest House

Dear volunteers,

Grassroots is focused on empowering communities to offer continued support to Ukrainian newcomers. Because of this, we are excited to announce that on  September 1, 2024, the management of the St. Jacobs Guest House at 16 Isabella Street in St. Jacobs will be transferred from Grassroots to a group of volunteers from St. Jacobs and the surrounding area. Rick Stroobosscher, a past volunteer at Grassroots, will be working with Grassroots to create a smooth transition.  The Guest House will continue to provide short-term housing for Ukrainians who are fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Grassroots will continue to open, operate, and mobilize volunteers to support Ukrainians throughout Ontario. Current guests can stay or accept accommodations in another Grassroots facility if they wish to stay in the Grassroots Ukrainian Support Program.  For those guests who choose to stay, the volunteers from St. Jacobs and the surrounding area will continue to assist guests in finding employment and longer-term housing.

We are thankful to Maryna Mukha for being a part of the Grassroots team and helping to coordinate the St. Jacobs Guest House. Maryna Mukha will continue to be a part of our team, as she moves to British Columbia, where she will start working on new partnerships in British Columbia.  Maryna’s last work day at St. Jacobs Guest House will be August 20.

Volunteers who previously helped guests at this house will still be able to through the new group being developed.  Grassroots will not be coordinating any support at the house.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Inna Biliaieva
