Grassroots Summer Camp: Three Weeks of Creativity, Discovery, and Adventure

The Grassroots Response to the Ukrainian Crisis Summer Camp has successfully completed its first three themed weeks, giving children countless opportunities to learn, create, explore, and make lasting memories.

Over the past three weeks, more than 15 children have participated in the program. Some campers are attending all seven weeks, while others have joined for only selected sessions. To ensure every experience is unique, each week features a different theme, allowing both new and returning campers to enjoy fresh activities, projects, and adventures.

During the first three weeks, children completed nearly 30 creative projects, participated in numerous science experiments, hands-on workshops, and team-building activities. They painted with watercolours, created sea creatures, rainbow jellyfish, pebble crafts, volcanoes, sunshine-themed artwork, felt dragons, appliqué projects, dragon eggs, and treasure chests. Young campers also explored exciting experiments involving water, ice, volcanoes, and lava lamps, while enjoying outdoor games and team activities every day.

The children's favourite experiences were the science experiments, creative projects, and themed treasure hunts. Some of the biggest highlights included the erupting volcano experiment, discovering frozen treasures hidden in ice, creating their own felt dragons, and searching for dragon eggs. Campers enthusiastically imagined unique names and magical powers for their dragons while also learning new artistic techniques, including blot painting and watercolour techniques for creating realistic fire effects.

Each themed week offered memorable moments. During Earth Week, children especially enjoyed planting their own plants and learning how to care for them. Water Week was filled with laughter as campers took part in an exciting water-gun battle. During Fire Week, the search for hidden dragon eggs became an unforgettable adventure. The children were so engaged that they continued searching every corner of the camp even after all the eggs had already been found.

Outdoor play continues to be one of the most enjoyable parts of each camp day. Children love playing ball games, running, participating in relay races, and working together in a variety of team challenges that encourage physical activity, cooperation, and confidence.

There are still several exciting themed weeks ahead, filled with new creative projects, science experiments, outdoor activities, and plenty of surprises.
