Last night, the Charity Jazz evening took place as part of the Right to Stay campaign – an initiative by Grassroots Response to the Ukrainian Crisis and the incredible pianist and founder of the Grand River Jazz Society, Stephen Preece.
The Right to Stay is a community-driven effort to help Ukrainian families who are at risk of losing their right to stay in Canada - to live in dignity, receive support for adaptation, and begin a new life. This initiative is vital and urgent, especially following the recent cuts to government housing programs, free language training, and other essential services.
So, a wonderful band - Stephen Preece and friends - gifted us a magical evening where live music reigned supreme. In the dim glow of the jazz club, with cozy tables, warm embraces, glasses in hand, and the shimmer of elegant dresses under soft lighting, smiles and sparkling eyes filled the room.

Jazz flowed along the walls of The Jazz Room, and the musicians' energy captivated the audience. Some held their breath, others tapped along in sync with the rhythm, and many broke into spontaneous applause and heartfelt cries of “bravo!” after each dazzling improvisation.
We are deeply grateful to Stephen Preece, the musicians, the volunteers, and each person who bought a ticket or made a donation. You weren’t just at a concert - you stood beside the Ukrainian community at a time when your support is truly needed.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to MB Construction for becoming the matching sponsor of this evening’s event. Your generous support not only doubles the impact of every donation but also inspires others to give with the same spirit of solidarity and care. We value your dedication to creating a positive impact on society.
Stay with us. Your presence means the world.
